Practicum Days: Day 1

6.43am we're in the school compound, a warm smile greeted us.

Familiar faces of my past.... familiar places of my youth...

Finally I am back... serving my 'former school..

I am here now! But It feels so surreal...

Am I dreaming? am I seeing things?
(a small piece of me had hoped so..)

The assembly is about to start and we took our seats.

The students are curious.... I can feel their anticipations..

There were few announcements, there was prize giving ceremony, and they sang a birthday song for the teachers...

It felt like a blast from the past...

I did all those things... Once upon a time.

An hour has passed....

I feel like I'm in someone else's dream..
Walking in my own memories..

She greeted us... "Cikgu, saya nak cikgu memperkenalkan diri dgn murid2" .... warm smile..

This is not a dream. This one is real..

My heart jumped! I'm wide awake now. My mind is racing...
Words jumbled up in my mind..

There were a few more announcements, including a fiery speech about loving our Malay language.

We had planned to introduce ourselves in English. Somehow, that speech made us think twice.

.
.
.
.

Few minutes had passed.....
My blood flow is normal again.
I tried to stay as calm as I could.
Positive thinking..... Positive thinking.... Positive thinking....
There's no place to run now....
I had naughty thoughts on escaping...

The voice through the speaker pulled me back into reality..
......"now, we are welcoming 3 new members of this school, teachers, please introduce yourself"

Blood flow is building up speed now...
what was the introduction line I made just now?
we're speaking in what language now?

Dub.. Dab.. Dub.. Dab.. My rib cage almost burst opened...

Holding on to the microphone:
One deep breath... and Here goes..........

"Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh."
sheer silence.......... all focus was on me.
"A very good morning everyone"
.................. everyone cheered.
People clapping their hands.
"I'm Miss Dewi Haikal from IPGM Gaya Campus bla... bla... bla..."
Thus, the cheer grew bigger... and bigger.

I'm aware of it...
The Self Introductory speech made in English language seemed fascinating to them.
What a way of putting up a stamp in this school..

We are after all, English language teachers.

We were glad that things end up the way they were.......
We have arrived!

Later........................

We met a lovely lady, the PK1 of the school.
She was warm & welcoming and generous and kind towards us. 'Someone I aspire to be.......'
we had breakfast together and parted ways short after that.

I realized nothing much has changed since I left the school...

Same buildings...

Stood still just as how I remembered it..

The structure of our pride...

We shared good times and bad times...

Reminiscing our past achievements...

The joy and happiness of those moments..

.
.
.
.

It was a good day as I walked down the memory lane...

It was a good day to experience new things...

It's the start of a new journey.

I'm sure it will be challenging...

Do pray for my well being and success..

Until tomorrow................
