Practicum Days: Day 2

Beautiful morning as usual...

Students greeted me and they smiled. Cheerful as they go...

Sheila was there early (as usual)...
Stuck outside the office, waiting to punch her card.

Yes, we have 'punch card' system. Even trainees have this privilege.

Most importantly, It kept us on time.
It kept 'me' on time....

As we walk towards the teachers' room, warm greetings coloured our way.
Instantly made the day even better.

We sat down and chatted. Weren't sure what we'll be doing today..
Hoping that everything will be fine.
Please be fine... Please be fine....
.
.

Minutes passed,
The PK1 gave us our teaching time tables....
10 hours of teaching per week. Not bad...

As we go through the time tables, a 'bonus slip' came towards us.

Suspense music playing at the background...

Jeng! Jeng! Jeng!

It's a slip for the Relief Class. It was my first...

Sheila got 3 relief classes today. I only have one... yippeeee....

So we went around school buildings trying to find out the location of the classes.

Mine was at the end of the building....

The last class of all form four classes.

Form 4 Al-Ghazali

Calmly I walked towards the class...

I can clearly hear naughty whispers and loud chatters as I walked through the corridor.

Childish game.... I'm over it.

I walked into the class..

"All stand up... Good Morning Teacher"... They were Loud and clear.

Usually I would let them sit, but I needed to make sure that everyone was there. 27 of them.. few were missing...

To my surprise, they recite a Do'a..... as if like I'm there to teach them Islamic Studies.

Some of them were surprised as well... Because the naughty boys lead the prayers.

They made me smile and then they sat down.

Those who were missing had some other programme that day...

I looked at them blankly...

There was a boy eating his nasi lemak, a girl who's just sleepy and landing on the table, few girls were busy doing their homework. The naughty boys were silent...

Their eyes were on me...
Analyzing my speech...
Predicting my move...

I never signed up for this. This is too sudden, I don't know what to do with them.

I asked them to introduce themselves....
It was basically a background checkup.
Most of them lives near by...
One girl is from my place.

The whole hour was basically a question and answer sessions with the students.
I interrogated them...
They interrogated me...

Them: Teacher, are you married..?
Me: I'm going to get married...
Them: Awwwwhhhhh....(They faked their disappointment) haha..
Them: Teacher, are you engaged...?
Me: I'm going to get engaged...
Them: (They shook their heads and laugh away)
Them: How old are you teacher?
Me: I'm in my 20s
Them: 22? 23? 29? and then a boy shouted...
"I know!!! It's Twenty Eleven!!"

Hahahhahahahahah! Hillarious.. We all laughed.

Hours had passed without even realizing it.

The naughty boys seemed engrossed with the discussions.. few students were listening while doing their own work.

Few minutes before the class ends, I asked them about their passion.
Some of them liked music, some of them preferred art, math and other stuff..

I concluded the day by advising them to follow their dreams and passion. To never give up and that there will be more challenges that they have to face in the future...

As I was saying all these stuff, I can feel their concern.
Their anxiety.. Their exasperation.

I know some of them have difficulties in their studies and troubles at home..

It almost teared me that they would sit still and listen intently to what I was saying.
as if I feel that They really believe that they too can make something out of themselves.

There's light in their eyes...

It was weird. I cared for them.
I think I've fallen in love with all of them...
Especially the naughty ones....

When it was time to go, I said: "so I'll leave you now"...

They replied :" I love you too teacher"....

and with that, they made me laugh...
(Did they hear something else coming out of my mouth? haha..

Back in the teachers' room...
Another assignment came in:

We were invited to be part of Facilitators' team for
'Self-esteem Camps' and 'Leadership Courses for the prefects...

(There goes my weekend!)
But I'm sure we'll gain something out of this... :)

--------
.
.

After breakfast, Sheila and I and parted ways to our assigned classes.

I needed to observe the class that I'm going to teach next week.

So, there I was... Sitting at the back of the class..
Can't help but feel like I'm becoming school student again..

Listening to my former teacher teaching almost the same things she taught me during school back in those days...

It's amazing how things works out.

Never in my dreams have I imagined that this day would come.

.
.
.

The lesson went smoothly and I got to get to know my students better. ^^

It's a good class to teach.

I'm nervous and excited to finally be teaching them.
--------
.
.

Before we went back home, there was a meeting.

This coming Thursday we'll be organizing 'Education For Life' Carnival

The whole school will be participating.

There will be games and prizes...

Poetry writing and singing competition...

and
much much more.

and

I hope it'd be much much fun!

I'm telling you, those camps will be so much fun this time around because we're the teachers now, not the students. So there are more priviliges. Yup!!!
